The Unbelieveably Talented Mat Kearney
My latest CD acquisition is Mat Kearney's Nothing Left to Lose, which is by far the best album I've bought in a while. This is definitely a record I'd sell my bed (and left kidney, if necessary) to own. Kearney's sound is unique, versatile, stupendously intelligent--everything I've ever hoped for in a Christian artist. (Down with the cheese!) I'm so excited for his career I can hardly sleep! Check out matkearney.com and weep (for joy).

He's going to be a two blocks from where I go to class on Tuesday next week...but at 12:00 noon, a rather unfortunate time for the working man. Maybe I can find a way to sneak out and hear him!
Mark,
I can't believe you're not going to the concert! What class could be that important? "Hebrew Particles and Inversed Syntax in 11QMelchizedek"? Even so, doesn't even come close!
Nix that! I'm going to be there with my friend Frank on our lunch hour. Hopefully it'll be good.
I saw him today at Borders in Ann Arbor over my lunch hour. It was totally awesome! There were about 80-100 people crammed in the second floor of the ORIGINAL Borders in Ann Arbor, MI. I bought the CD at discount rate. The whole show was broadcast live on the radio. I couldn't stay for the whole thing, so I didn't get a signature, but that's okay. His lyrics are powerful...covertly Christian. Take a look at this from his song, "Girl America":
Faith like a child from you first birth/ You left it in the dirt on your worst hurt/ And I see each tear and every scar/ The hands that have held you where you are/ And I can see we've strayed so far/ A king born under that morning star/ As a crown of thorns was placed to erase/ Each tear that's touched your face/ And his palms and sides were pierced with spears/ He hug in love just to draw you near/ My girl, out of this whole world/ Can't you see this is where we started./
Mark,
Wish I could've been at the concert! "Girl America" is one of the most intriguing songs on the album, I think. In the last few listens, "In the Middle" has caught my attention. Tell me what you think it's about.
W.H.
